Back Pain TreatmentHave you been experiencing back pain or tingling down your legs? If it only occurs once in a blue moon, you're likely not going to worry about it.

However, once these symptoms start to become more chronic, it may be time to seek out a chiropractor's help.

What Could Back Pain or Tingling Down Your Legs Indicate?

Note that back pain and tingling down your legs can be indicative of vastly different issues. However, when the two symptoms occur at the same time, chances are you are suffering from sciatica.

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is most commonly defined as pain that begins in the lower back and then radiates down through the hips and buttocks, then down either leg. While pain is one of the most common symptoms, another is a tingling or numbness in the affected leg.

These symptoms occur when the sciatic nerve is being compressed, usually by a herniated disc in the lower lumbar region.

Other Causes of Back Pain or Tingling Down Legs

While sciatica is one of the most likely reasons for back pain and/or tingling down your legs, there is a myriad of other reasons for these symptoms, including:

  • Infection
  • Spinal cord compression
  • Nerve compression
  • Blood vessel conditions
  • Pelvic/hip problems
  • Cysts/tumors

The only way to determine the cause of these symptoms is to seek a professional opinion.

Chiropractic Treatment Options Worth Exploring

When a patient with back pain and tingling down their legs comes into a chiropractor's office, a full physical examination is required to determine the cause of the symptoms. If the cause couldn’t be pinpointed, the patient may be required to seek additional imaging tests, such as an x-ray or MRI.

Once the cause has been determined, the chiropractor may suggest one or more of the following treatment options:
